Since September 2018, the platform has been operated as a laboratory managed by a team of professionals and students at the Schooll of Journalism and New Media ...at the University of Mississippi. The goal is to provide students with real-world experiences in journalism and integrated marketing communications that equip them for jobs in all aspects of media, and to provide the Ole Miss and Oxford communities with relevant and timely news and information. The site is a self-supported entity funded entirely by advertising revenue. A small professional staff works in conjunction with students, interns and some faculty to prepare diverse content for the site, with an emphasis on local news and features of inspiring people and ideas. Several writing courses in the school are devoted to working with Hottytoddy.com. Soon, courses focused on sales, integrated marketing communications, sports reporting and promotion and other topics will be partnered with the platform. The success of Hottytoddy.com reflects its focus on both journalism and digital marketing. It fits well with the school’s degree programs in Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications.
